OK, Torchwood Writer, We Get The Point

Now, as you'll know, I love the new version of Dr Who. I've said elsewhere on this esteemed blog how I absolutely loved the "Blink" episode, and rated is as some of the best television I've seen. As did The Fly.

So I started watching the spin-off Torchwood (variously described as "more adult", "with added sexuality", etc. Started watching it... wandered off... and came back for the finale of the first season, as it tied into the main Dr Who arc.

And so, with the second season just starting here in the UK, I popped over to Wikipedia to catch up on what I'd missed from the first season.

And it seems that every character is either gay, bisexual, or straight-but-strayed-the-other-way-once-or-twice.

The writer is openly gay, and I've heard that he'd gotten fed up with the big-chested, big-gunned "beer, cars, birds, and football" overly-hetero/over-testosteroned adventure series on TV.

I understand that. Not everyone (ie, the majority of the readers of this blog) are into beer, cars, birds, and football. Well, we're not evangelical about it, anyway.

But, dear writer, not everyone is alternately sexual either. I'm finding that the idea of yet another gay kissing scene is about as appealing as watching Dog The Bounty Hunter puff up his chest and pull in his old-man's belly yet again.

Tone it down, old boy. We've got the point. It's OK to be gay without ramming it down everyone's throat, so to speak. You don't really need to make everything a gay issue. Please.

Ugh... T & I squirmed and were freaking out watching this, not because it was a gay kiss, [well maybe 10% for me] but more at the unnecessary, as you say, ramming down the throat of the point of this show. Just was over the top.

It added nothing and just seemed childish and immature as if were all gonna be shocked at how edgy they were. Suggestion is far more sexy than showing everything, but I can only see this getting worse...

p.s blink episode of Dr. Who was berilliant indeed! Just shows you less is more as the main actors were hardly in it.
