Another Microsoft PITA fixed!
Exit outlook if you've got it open.Edit properties on your shortcut for Outlook.
Add a space followed by /nopreview to the end of it.
Save the shortcut.
Click on it to start Outlook.
Hey presto! - no fecking damned annoying and virus-helping reading pane!

Nice, I've just upgraded to 2003 and it doesn't seem to be on my default, about time they learned that trick.
