The Problem With Buying A New Car...

... is knowing how everything works.

There's me, driving one day a week down to the office for the last two months, plus trips back and forth twice a day to drop off/pick up ma famille, thinking "OK, the car's nice, but it's not great on petrol". Maybe something to do with being a 1.8, whereas I'd previously only had 1.6s. But this has 6 gears and is about 3 centuries newer than my older ones... surely it must be more economical.

Drove down to the sister-in-law's the other weekend, stopping of at Grannie's for tea. As we drove off, she called us to say "there's a leak on the road where the car was."

Oh-oh.

Drove back. Sniffed it. Looked at it. Touched it. Almost dry already, clear, not oily. Couldn't figure out what it was.

Turns out it was something to do with having had the air-con on since the day we bought it 2 months earlier.

Guess that explains the petrol consumption :-)
